Invariably, when we hear “contamination” of the word, always think of plastics, fertilizer and oil spills. While these contaminants cause a significant amount of pollution, we must not forget that our industry also shed a large amount of toxic chemicals and other contaminants in the soil, air and water.
Most of the land surface is covered with water, and the only sources of fresh water and drinking water are lakes, rivers, lakes and streams. However, these are the sources of water as endangered slow but steady industrial wastes are finding their way into them. Industrial wastes such as oils, fats, acids, alkalis, dyes, radioactive compounds and pesticides are found in rivers, streams and estuaries. Power plants are known for carrying pollutants into water bodies. For example, hot water, which is a byproduct, it is always discharged into nearby water bodies and this eventually kills the delicate flora and fauna that live there. Other contaminants that are commonly seen in the water bodies are composed of polychlorinated biphenyls and lubricants. Some of the contaminants eventually dissolve in the water and find their way into the food chain, while others remain in suspension or settle to the bottom of the water body.
